Heartbreak, the apocalypse, and borrowed nostalgia for a bygone era are all themes on Ocean Flaws' new single Heavy As The Moon, which fuses blinking synth licks with crooning saxophone, a twisting bass riff, and daunting baritone vocals.

Heavy As The Moon (released Friday 2 September) is the second single from Ocean Flaws' debut EP, Zoo Doo Magic, the lead single and title track for which has already garnered the Essex four-piece features on Radio X, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, and This Feeling's Best New Bands playlist.

Heavy As The Moon picks up where Zoo Doo Magic left off, riding in on a wave surfed by saxophone icon Andrew Ross (Noel Gallagher, Amy Winehouse) before giving way to sparse verses and soaring choruses.

The Zoo Doo Magic EP will spawn two more singles across October and November before landing in its entirety, with a headline London gig at Colours Hoxton (Friday 14 October) anchoring the release.

"These are ones to watch out for."

John Kennedy, Radio X

“If you haven't heard of them, go check them out now.”

Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio 6

"One of the most exciting indie bands emerging from the UK right now."

Emma Harrison, Clash Magazine

“The best new concept band about.”

Jake Peach, BBC Introducing in Essex

“Indie and its sub genres is a busy place …yet Ocean Flaws have created something instantly recognisable. This is just the beginning for this fledgling indie outfit - they’ve got mainstage written in their future.”

Kieran Webber, Clunk Magazine

"The warm guitar tones, tropical drum toms and psychedelic synths suggest they're looking to headline the likes of Reading & Leeds in the next five years!"

Fred Bambridge, It's All Indie

"Eclectic Essex 4-piece impossible to pigeon hole and increasingly harder to ignore.."

Mikey Jonns, This Feeling

Heavy As The Moon Lyrics

VERSE

Waiting for the world to end
I’m looking for some love to spend on you
I raised another bridge to mend
I wrote a second song to send to you

CHORUS

It feels like we’re touching hands, in the mid 90s
But now you’re just making plans
In every one of my dreams

VERSE

Heart as heavy as the moon
I never found the words that work on you
An automated helping hand
It disappeared like snow on sand

CHORUS

It feels like we’re touching hands, in the mid 90s

But now you’re just making plans

In every one of my dreams

I hear we’re still holding hands, in the mid 90s

But now you’re just making plans, shifting sands

In every one of my dreams

Biography

“Impossible to pigeon hole and increasingly hard to ignore,” are Ocean Flaws labelled by founder of This Feeling, Mike Jonns.

A fresh, unsigned band - already boasting countless plays on BBC Radio 6, Radio X, and BBC Introducing, as well as a #2 spot on iTunes’ alternative charts - Ocean Flaws have been heralded as "one of the most exciting indie bands emerging from the UK right now,” by Emma Harrison, Clash Magazine.

In their brief time on the London circuit, they have supported Oasis’ own Andy Bell, and sold out multiple headline shows across the city.

With the size of their following ever-growing, Clunk Magazine writes: “This is just the beginning for this fledgling indie outfit - they’ve got mainstage written in their future.”
